Magnesium Hydroxide (to make Magnesium Bicarbonate)

from $22.00

Magnesium is an essential electrolyte that plays a role in most, if not all, chemical processes in the body, including:

  • ATP/energy production

  • DNA replication

  • RNA and protein synthesis

  • Hormone production and regulation

  • Nerve signalling and function

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Much more

As such, it is vital that people get adequate magnesium in their diet daily to keep their metabolism functioning optimally. However, magnesium is the most ubiquitous mineral deficiency due to many factors but mainly due to a process called the “Magnesium Burn Rate”. As stress increases, so does the body’s need for magnesium, and so up’s the “Magnesium Burn Rate.” So, the more you stress (even low grade), the more magnesium you “burn,” and the more deficient your body becomes.

Why Magnesium bicarbonate especially beneficial?

Most forms of magnesium are not bioavailable, meaning it is very hard to assimilate and you have to take alot to get enough (which can cause problems). Magnesium bicarbonate is readily absorbed and the bicarbonate helps transport the magnesium directly into our mitochondria, the powerhouse of our cells.

Magnesium Bicarbonate is also incredibly simple (and cheap) to make yourself. You need a bottle of sparkling mineral water and a quarter teaspoon of magnesium hydroxide powder to create a highly concentrated magnesium liquid!

Ingredients: 100% pure magnesium hydroxide

Directions for use:

  • Chill 1L of carbonated sparkling mineral water (preferably in glass like Perrier or San Pellegrino).

  • Once chilled, pour out 100 mL so there is some room in the bottle (for any fizzing action).

  • Add ¼ teaspoon of the magnesium hydroxide powder. Watch the bubbles forming, making sure it doesn’t overflow. You can add up to half a teaspoon, however, if there is any sediment in the bottom of the bottle you will know you’ve added to much powder.

  • After adding the powder, put the lid back on and shake for a minutes ensuring all powder has been diluted.

  • Place it back in the refrigerator for an hour.

  • After an hour you can take it out and shake again.

  • Put it back in the refrigerator once more and leave to sit overnight.
