Methylene Blue: Therapeutic Uses and Dosing

Methylene Blue (MB) is one of those things that fall into the ‘too good to be true’ category. As a holistic nutritionist who really takes a food-first approach to most things, that’s exactly what I labelled MB as “too good to be true” for well over a year and never investigated it further. Not until my own personal encounter with the spicy flu. Then everything changed.

Here are the researched benefits of MB, not according to me, but according to the research so far:

  • Improved mitochondrial function: Methylene blue has been shown to enhance cellular energy production by improving mitochondrial function, potentially leading to increased energy levels and improved overall cellular health.

  • Neuroprotective effects: Research suggests that methylene blue may have neuroprotective properties, potentially reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and neurodegeneration in the brain.

  • Enhanced cognitive function: Some studies indicate that methylene blue may improve cognitive function, including memory, attention, and executive function, potentially benefiting individuals with cognitive decline or neurodegenerative disorders.

  • Antioxidant activity: Methylene blue acts as an antioxidant, helping to neutralize harmful free radicals and reduce oxidative stress, which may have a positive impact on overall health and longevity.

  • Mood and depression support: Methylene blue has shown promise in improving mood and alleviating symptoms of depression, possibly by modulating neurotransmitters and neuroplasticity.

  • Anti-aging effects: The antioxidant and mitochondrial-enhancing properties of methylene blue may contribute to its potential anti-aging effects, promoting cellular health and longevity.

  • Antimicrobial activity: Methylene blue has been found to possess antimicrobial properties, potentially inhibiting the growth of certain bacteria and fungi.

  • Wound healing: Methylene blue may aid in wound healing by stimulating tissue repair and reducing inflammation.

With all of this research in mind, I will talk about my experience with the spicy flu and how MB helped me.

I was going through a stressful point in my life when I contracted the virus, so because of this, I know that my immune system was already weak. We were moving interstate and starting a new business, there were also some family matters on top that were contributing to the stress. My compromised immune system was just not able to fight this off effectively, I tried all the whole food supplements under my belt, but the condition actually seemed to be getting worse, not better over time. I was still fatigued and plagued with incessant brain fog. I then developed what is known as “nodular episcleritis” and I lost about 50% of my vision in my right eye. The eye specialist said that this condition is usually accompanied by auto-immune conditions such as Rheumatoid arthritis and sent me to get my blood checked. I knew at that moment that my immune system was really badly compromised. So, I got to work researching, and I rediscovered MB.

I took 3 drops in raw milk or water every day for 3 months.

After the first month, my brain fog had lifted, for which I was so grateful. I actually needed to take time off working it clients, it had gotten that bad. After the second month, my fatigue was 75% better. Then after the third month, I saw that my fatigue had lifted completely and I felt more myself again. I am still dealing with nodular episcleritis, but my vision has improved significantly and I only have 1 small nodule left, that heals a little bit more every single day.

If I were to change the way I did things, I would have taken the 2-3 drops of MB directly under the tongue to allow it to cross straight into the bloodstream, as opposed to consuming it and allowing it to be digested first before reaching the bloodstream. I believe I may have slowed my progression down here slightly by doing so, but nonetheless, I am so still so grateful for this product.
